Abstract
The area of south of National Highway 1A in Bac Lieu province plays a key role of the aquaculture with many models of shrimp such as: industrial and semi-industrial shrimp farming models, and shrimp farming, extensive farming, combined improved extensive farming, shrimp-forest, salt making and coastal mangrove development. However, this area is currently directly impacted by the East Sea tide as well as the adverse impacts of climate change such as natural disasters (wind, waves, storm surges, erosion) and coastal erosion; thus human activities and production of the local people are seriously affected. In addition, surface water of this area is being polluted widely on a large scale and tends to increase rapidly in level. These make more difficult for aquaculture activities in this region. Moreover, this area is being seriously affected by climate change, impacting on many difficulties for the livelihoods of indigenous people. This research is conducted to assess the challenges and opportunities for this region in the background of climate change affecting people's livelihoods and evalutate the quality of the current water environment based on methods such as SWOT analysis, expert consultation, data collection, analysis sampling. Thanks to that, the solutions are proposed to improve technical infrastructure and minimize adverse impacts for the region from the sea; as well as improve water quality for better control of the environment quality and aquatic diseases. It aims to ensure the aquaculture for people in the region.
